Every Sunday we make
pancakes. This tradition is about
three years old. After 8am church,
there is nothing better than returning home to make pancakes and then take an
afternoon nap. In the midst of a
busy week, this weekend ritual has become my Sabbath.
“The sabbath was made for humankind, not humankind for the sabbath.”
– Mark 2:27
In Mark, Jesus reminds us
that God gave us the sabbath, the day of rest, for our benefit. God recognized the need for rest, and
the life-giving practice to put your feet up and take a break. Counter-culturally, God tells us to
take some time apart from the go-go-go and to reconnect to ourselves, our loved
ones, and our God.
